The Randal Foundation is proud to support the Societi Foundation to help them deliver a transformational UK-wide project to improve outcomes for all children affected by Kawasaki Disease. The grant underpins their crucial work to develop and publish a new, expert-led national care guideline, produced to full RCPCH method standards, by late summer 2026. This will set out clear, evidence-based standards for diagnosis, treatment and ongoing care and by helping us to campaign for adoption of the guideline, they will address the current variation in care that children receive. By doing this, they will reduce the risk of long-term heart damage for all affected children.
The grant funding will allow them to reach every NHS Trust and Health Board in the UK, once the guideline is published, to provide targeted training for doctors and promote the best practice guideline through national partner networks, raising awareness alongside to help more children get the early diagnosis they need.
They will expand their Children’s Hospital Partnership Programme to more than 100 hospitals, reaching over 10 million children. Through this network, they will share updated clinical resources and family information materials, empowering parents in their child’s care.
The project will include the creation of social media campaigns, mini-videos and reels, in encouraging uptake of the guideline among doctors and nurses. They will further promote this work by attending the RCPCH annual conference, to meet 1,000+ healthcare professionals and share lifesaving information and training resources.
The long-term impact of this project will be highly significant, the most important step change in care in the UK for perhaps two decades. The guideline will be the national reference for Kawasaki Disease for at least five years, with planned updates as evidence evolves. Its adoption will embed consistent, high-quality care across the NHS, reducing practice variation and improving outcomes. Sustained through their established partnerships and national networks, this project will create a lasting legacy that strengthens early diagnosis, enhances treatment and reduces lifelong heart disease risk for children across the UK, while recognising the Randal Foundation’s pivotal role in enabling this national change.
