The Randal Foundation are proud to partner with Calais Food Collective and MASS ACTION to help support their food, water, waste management, and advocacy work
Our partnership will have a significant impact across three projects.
The majority of our project will focus on Calais Food Collective’s water project which will make a huge difference to the quality of life of thousands of people. By providing access to drinking water close to people’s living spaces, people do not need to walk long distances (often over 5km) with heavy jerry cans. The project will provide over 2 million litres of water to around 20,000 people over the course of one year. This mitigates acute, preventable risks to life and health. By distributing clean drinking water, we reduce exposure to dehydration, waterborne illness, and unsanitary conditions and facilitate people’s ability to wash.
The Randal Foundation is also supporting their food project which will support people in situations of precarity in Calais with food deliveries, reaching several hundred people every week. This project expects to improve the lives of around 4,000 people over the course of a year through the food project, reducing malnutrition and food insecurity and improving people’s mental wellbeing.
A small quantity of our partnership will also focus on the litter project, significantly improving the hygiene of living spaces at informal living sites, by helping remove up to 7,000 bin bags worth of rubbish every year through a broad community effort, as well as providing support to our ongoing legal campaign for bins to be placed next to informal living sites. This work has essential public health impact and broad mental health benefits for the inhabitants of these living sites.
