CHASE Africa’s vision is a world where women and men can access primary healthcare and choose the timing, number, and spacing of their children; resulting in healthier, wealthier families, communities and more sustainable environments.
A shocking 1 in 5 married women in Africa who want family planning, are unable to access it. CHASE Africa works to give remote, rural communities access to voluntary family planning in order to improve the quality of life of women, their families and their communities.
In 2020 and 2021 the Randal Charitable Foundation funded mobile family planning clinics in rural Kenya.
This is particularly vital in Kenya because the country has one of the highest rates of unplanned and unwanted pregnancies in Africa. The unmet need for family planning sharply increases among women with lower levels of education, living in rural areas and with lower incomes.
Kenyan Government figures show that overall 42% of women do not use any form of contraception, but in poor, marginalised and rural communities, this figure is much higher.
The family planning clinic funded by the Foundation will give women in the region the gift of choice, allowing them to choose the number and spacing of their children. This improves maternal and infant health, empowers women and reduces financial pressure on rural households.
