Citizens Foundation

Jun 20, 2022

The Citizens Foundation (UK) is a UK registered charity that supports the education of underprivileged children in Pakistan.

It achieves this by raising funds and awareness to support the education programmes of The Citizens Foundation (TCF), Pakistan’s leading education charity.

Since 1995, TCF has been providing life-changing education through purpose-built schools in the heart of Pakistan’s urban and rural slums.

Today, TCF runs perhaps one of the largest networks of independently run low-cost schools in the world. With an all-female faculty comprising 13,000 teachers and principals, TCF is possibly the largest private employer of women in Pakistan.

To date, UK donors have built over 44 schools, of which 16 run afternoon shifts.

The charity’s vision is to remove barriers of class and privilege and make education accessible to all children, regardless of gender, religion, race, ethnicity or the family's ability to pay. Their mission is to enable moral, spiritual and intellectual enlightenment through quality education and to make the citizens of Pakistan 'agents of positive change'. These are well-rounded, motivated and capable individuals who have the drive and consciousness.

Citizens Foundation (UK) Trustee, Imtiaz Dossa, said: “This generous grant from The Randal Charitable Foundation will enable 182 children from Kindergarten to Grade 5 to benefit from TCF’s innovative play-based early childhood curriculum. The programme aims to cultivate 21st century skills in children such as critical thinking, tolerance, and communication to build a strong foundation for success in adult life. In addition, the grant will be used to provide training and employment for a female principal and 7 school teachers. TCF hires an all-female faculty to encourage parents to send their daughters to school so that half of our students are girls.

"We are delighted to be working with The Randal Charitable Foundation to provide less privileged children with the best start in life – the opportunity to go to school, realise their potential and set themselves up for a life of success.”
