Deki believes that everyone should have the opportunity to work their way out of poverty and to have the chance to change their lives and the lives of those around them.
Working in the Maritime region of Togo, the charity works alongside their local partner, IADES-Togo, to support rural communities to become financially resilient.
The charity provides access to ethical micro loans which are supported by continuous business development training and community workshops. These run fortnightly and make sure that all entrepreneurs have the tools and knowledge they need to manage their loans confidently and to make their business a success.
Workshops include inventory management, customer relations, basic bookkeeping, product promotion and the dangers of selling on credit. They also deliver gender rights workshops to empower women to become leaders in their homes and communities.
Deki also provides health and social issues workshops during which community groups can learn about malaria prevention and treatment, how to identify the symptoms of waterborne diseases, family planning, interpersonal relationships, and sexual health. Women can also attend a workshop about how to check for breast cancer and talk about their fears surrounding it.
Running alongside the livelihood development loans and business training, Deki has created four new programmes which address the needs of the community and provides access to affordable healthcare, creates opportunities for farmers to join cooperatives, and they have begun work on a new clean water project.
In 2022 the Randal Charitable Foundation provided grant funding towards the operational costs of a health service program called MUSA, to support healthcare in 6 communities in Togo, West Africa.
