The Grange Park Centre (GPC) charity is working with the communities of Shelthorpe Ward – which includes Shelthorpe, Grange Park and Haddon Way – with the vision of creating a community centre as a shared space.
Feedback from consultation events and resident surveys has emphasised the need for a venue for exercise clubs, children’s groups, community activities, and adult learning.
The centre secured £500,000 from the Big Lottery Reaching Communities building Fund. It also raised over £200,000 from 30 other trusts, foundations and organisations, including support from the Randal Charitable Foundation, which has contributed £5,000 towards the building construction..
The Arc Community Hub is a new community centre in South Loughborough and on Sunday 15th December 2019, its doors were officially opened by five-time world record holder and Arc ambassador, Stef Reid, who led the official ribbon cutting ceremony in front of a large crowd of nearly 200 people. Stef was joined by children chosen to represent the 3 local schools.
The centre has been renamed ‘The Arc Community Hub’ to reflect the spark that this will generate between those in the community, and the fact it will act as a hub for activities and projects for the future.
The Arc will provide a new space for the residents in the area to engage in activities such as counselling, advice, training for older people in IT skills, parent and toddler groups, fitness and gardening classes as well as youth clubs and private events.
