Hope Community Village

Hope Community Village is supported by the Randal Charitable Foundation

Hope Community Village offers long term family care to parentless children in Kerala, India.

The charity’s dream is to give a home and a family – brothers, sisters and, most importantly, a mother – to one hundred disadvantaged children.

The vision was to build a village with 10 houses, each to be a home for 10 children and a mother who will bring them up with love, care and affection.

The Randal Charitable Foundation has awarded three grants to the project – two in 2019 and one in 2021 – to fund the vocational training and education for girls living in the village.

The village was founded by John Veitch, a British businessman who had links with the Alappuzha District for many years. In spite of the serene beauty of backwaters in the region, John was distressed by the plight of children of poor families in this coastal region of India.

He wished to create families for children who had lost parental care and he realised the need to integrate the community into the caring process. From here he planned out a program that would offer family care to parentless children and Hope Community Village was born.

The key people in the program are the Mothers who offer care to the children. There are six mothers supported by three aunts. There are also three social workers and a youth care worker.
