Hope for Tomorrow introduced the world’s first Mobile Cancer Care Unit in 2007, and are the largest provider of mobile cancer care in England.
They quite literally drive cancer care forward, with the aim of providing convenient cancer care. The charity enables treatment to be delivered in the right way, at the right time, closer to patients. And their first unit was launched in Gloucestershire, and is still serving patients locally now.
This way, patients’ lives are not dictated by their treatment and they can spend precious time doing what they love; from spending time with the family and friends, or even continuing to work. Importantly, they can have a life outside of cancer.
The charity says ‘Cancer affects us all. It may be us who’s been touched, close friends or family members. With one in two people sadly developing some form of cancer in their lifetime, thousands of people daily receive a diagnosis that will turn their world upside down.’
Living with cancer and receiving treatment is grueling. A nurse who the charity worked with recently said: “Cancer treatment causes sheer fatigue, it’s like someone has taken your batteries out.”
The stress and anxiety of getting to appointments, inevitable long waiting times in hospital, all whilst someone just wants to spend precious time with those they love often means that people’s lives are dictated by their treatment.
In 2021 The Randal Charitable Foundation provided grant funding to Hope to Tomorrow to provide maintenance and support for the mobile cancer care unit based in East Essex.
