Medair UK is a humanitarian organisation inspired by Christian faith working to relieve human suffering in some of the world’s most remote and devastated places.
Since 1989, they have been helping families in crisis around the world — regardless of race, creed, or nationality — survive and recover with dignity.
The charity works in the Middle East, Asia and Africa; and specialises in the areas of health & nutrition, water, sanitation and hygiene, and shelter.
In 2020 the Randal Charitable Foundation provided grant funding for the charity’s work in the Democratic Republic of Congo to support those in poverty due to on-going crisis. A further grant was made in 2022 to support a nutrition intervention to identify and treat acute malnutrition in 9,780 children under five years old in North Kivu, DR Congo.
The DR Congo now has more internally displaced people than any other African country. Families fearing violence flee to neighbouring villages or towns, where they often live in unsanitary and unsafe conditions.
In many instances, people who flee lose the home and livelihood they left behind. Each day they struggle to meet their basic needs while worrying about health and security, and waiting for news about when it may be possible to return home.
An Ebola outbreak in Eastern DR Congo in 2018 has added to the complexity: this was officially declared the second largest outbreak in the world, with over 3,400 cases recorded.
The Foundation’s support will help support thousands of people living with these daily challenges, and bring hope for a better future.
