Medic Assist International

Jun 27, 2023

Medic Assist International says life is already tough for many people living in poverty across the world, and believes in bringing health and hope in the hardest of times.

The charity understands that for many in the poorest and most vulnerable communities in lower-middle income countries, getting ill can be the last straw, and their ethos is that ‘when poor people get sick, daily life gets tougher still’.

Medic Assist International are currently working with local health partners in Chad, India, South Africa and South Sudan; and through their outstanding local partners, provide high quality and affordable healthcare to support people in desperate circumstances.

This is never more important than for people living in extreme poverty, who are unable to access universal healthcare. Recent World Health Organisation (WHO) figures show that at least half of the world’s population do not have access to essential health services.

The nearest clinic or hospital can often be many miles away, and paying for transport and then treatment is very hard when every day is a struggle to survive.

For most people living in extreme poverty there is a reliance on casual, manual work for money, which makes affording healthcare especially tough. Money dries up quickly when people are sick, and there is often no government support. For many, the end result is debt and their mental health can be severely impacted.

Some resort to traditional healers or cures that often do not work, or make the situation even worse. Illness is also isolating. Unable to care for themselves or connect with their community, sick people often end up shunned and lonely when they need help the most.

Medic Assist International exists to change this by providing free or low-cost, high quality healthcare to people who urgently need it.

In 2023 the Randal Charitable Foundation provided grant funding for the electrical installation and furnishing required for the final phase of building a vitally needed new women’s ward at the Guinebor Hospital in Chad, Africa.
