Societi is an influencing and policy shaping organisation which works through partnerships to drive real change in awareness across the UK, about Kawasaki Disease.
Kawasaki Disease affects hundreds of children in the UK each year. It is increasingly common with around 1,000 hospital admissions each year in the UK. Symptoms include a characteristic and distinctively persistent high fever for five days or more, plus two or more of the following symptoms – rash, bloodshot eyes, ‘strawberry’ tongue, cracked, dry lips, redness of the fingers and toes and swollen glands (often just on one side).
Progress in understanding Kawasaki Disease has been severely hampered by poor levels of awareness, a lack of investment and a lack of essential research in the UK. The charity says Kawasaki Disease is a medical emergency and they are working to get it recognised.
Children affected by Kawasaki Disease have a much improved chance of a good recovery with timely diagnosis and the correct treatment. By raising awareness of Kawasaki Disease the charity aims to ensure children receive prompt diagnosis, rapid treatment and appropriate long term care.
Societi was founded in 2015 and works to drive transformational change in awareness across the UK, about the disease.
In 2021, 2023 and 2024 the Randal Charitable Foundation provided significant grant funding for a programme that raises awareness of Kawasaki Disease to hospital health providers in the UK and through online resources accessed throughout Europe.
