The Listening Place is not a ‘drop-in’ centre – they see all of their visitors by appointment.
The charity says the world can feel like a very lonely place if you are feeling that life is no longer worth living: not only is it difficult to share those feelings but it can be hard to get the care and support that will make a difference.
The Listening Place offers a warm and welcoming environment; somewhere individuals can talk openly about their feelings, without being judged or being given advice.
Importantly, they provide on-going support from trained non-judgemental volunteers, which can continue over a number of weeks if this is appropriate.
The charity is also looking for individuals who have time to offer non-judgemental, warm, caring and empathetic support to their visitors.
In 2022 the Randal Charitable Foundation provided significant grant funding to deliver 800 face-to-face, 50 minute appointments with a highly trained volunteer – supporting 100 people.
