Health Improvement Project Zanzibar (HIPZ) has since 2007 been dedicated to improving the autonomous Tanzanian island of Zanzibar’s health system. The charity believes that every Zanzibari should have access to safe health care when they need it. They manage two hospitals, train local staff and run a progressive mental health programme. They support a community of over 350,000 people. The charity is also working with the Government towards the goal of achieving Universal Health Coverage in Zanzibar, as well as working with and in the communities they serve. From the grassroots to the Government, HIPZ is embedded in every level of the health care system in Zanzibar and they are a catalyst for positive change. This includes running their flagship programme in two hospitals, and strengthening systems at hospital and government level.
